The Glass Castle
This is my prediction of what the Green Caboose more than likely looked like at the time.
In the first thirty-three pages of The Glass Caslte by Jeannette Walls, Jeannette is put through some extremely hard tests of her families livilhood, and of her sense of self. One thing that I found very suprising in the reading was when Jeannette and her family were driving off in the Green Caboose right after Jeannette was thrown out of it. I found this to be very suprising because when she was thrown out of the car, the parents should have realised that a door was open in the car first of all, but more importantly that one of their children was gone. Once Jeannette was thrown out of the car because her dad was going to fast, she must've been stuck there by the railroads for at least half an hour or so, because she had enough time to let the blood on her knee dry. Her parents had extremely poor awareness that one of their children was missing from the car for more than a half hour.
Secondly, because this reading is to intricate and awkwardly worded, I have a question about the first reading. My question is how come Rex Walls doesn't like hospitals? This is my first question of the book because in the first reading, when Jeannette Walls is in the hospital, Rex breaks her loose by stealing her and running off, with out paying the fees. This could be one of the reasons why Rex doesn't like hospitals, but I believe he doesn't because of when he was a kid. I really do wonder what will happen if Rex Walls, or any of the members of the Walls family, really do get very hurt, and need to go to the hosptial. Will Rex Walls let them go? Or will he make them stay in the Green Caboose and 'tough it out'?
My prediction for future chapters is that they will move to a big city, however not make it well off, because of Rex Wall's anger issues. I believe that they will cross the country looking for jobs for Rex, however never find a real steady one. I believe that they will not stop looking untill the prospector is built, however it never will be. The prospector requires money, which they don't have. To get money, Rex Walls has to work, however when ever he finds a job, he looses it very quickly, and spends all the other money on different things, like hats, shirts, toys, a piano, and food. I also believe that the dream home, 'The Glass Castle', will never be built.'
The Glass Castle
This picture illustrates the matches that Jeannette used, which more probably waterprooff, which she didn't know.
In the reading of the book The Glass Caslte by Jeannette Walls, I found that the protagonist, Jeannette Walls, is a unintentional trouble maker. I found this out for the first time when they were in the nice hotel in Las Vegas, In the hotel, Jeannette was playing the some matches, lighting the toliet paper on fire. She then threw the toliet paper in the toliet, and flushed it like nothing had happened. This was a major problem later on, because it caused the hotel to burn down! Jeannette was awoken by the smell of smoke, and taken downstairs and across the street to a bar, where she watched the hotel light on fire, then burn down. She was also wondering the whole time whether or not it was actually her who had caused the fire. That's a rather big weight to carry, because if she's only eight, she could have killed someone during the fire with out intending to do so, and she would also know it might have been her fault that that person died. Another interesting thing in this chapter is when Rex Walls kicks Mrs. Walls out of the car and chases her around. I thought that this related to my theory that Rex Walls had anger issues when he was drunk, because he threw her wife out of the car, and was chasing her around, trying to hit her while the kids watch ni terror in the back seats of the car. This brings up red flags for later on in the book, because you can't tell what he's going to do next, or to who. One last thing I found interesting realates to the first reflection I made when I said that he can't keep a job to get a steady income of money, and this is shown in this reading because he gets a job at the barite mine, however he is unable to keep the job after a fight with one of his coworkers, so they had to get up and move again, eating up their reserve money as they go along, looking for another Job for Rex, just so he can lose it again.
The Glass Castle
This picture illustrates the gun that Billy Deel more than likely used.
In the third reading of the book The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, I found a very interesting part in the storyline, that was rather suprising. I found that when Billy Deel broke into her houe with a BB Gun and started shootings at them, I thought that that was just absolutely crazy of him to do. I know that he said she will be sorry for not being his girlfriend, but I'm pretty sure you don'get get someone to like you if you pelt them, along with there brothers, sisters, and two year old sister with BB Pelets that are going at about 800BBM. That was a very dangerous thing to do, and it was very much illegal in more than one way. One of the ways that shows what Billy Deel was illegal was first he broke into there home by smashing open one of there windows with a BB Pelet, and the smashed out the rest of the glass with the bud of his rifle. That alone can be charged on breaking and entering, which can lead to a very serious punishment. It's also obvious that it's assult when you shoot children with a BB Gun, which can lead to an even greater sentence. I also found that the actions taken by Lori in this scene were completely unnessesary. Just the fact that Lori would shoot the gun directly at him was very dangerous, and it could have kill him, right then and there. Also, Lori is only around fifteen or so I believe, and that's really too young to be holding a PCF, which is also illegal towards them, that Rex didn't lock up the pistol in a concealed area. Lori should have just fired a warning shot outside to Billy, not to hurt him, just to kind of say to him, 'hey, back off. I've got a real gun, you've got one that shoots pellets.' One question I have for this section is if they will get charged in court where they're going next for this, and if Rex Walls or Lori Walls goes to jail because of it. I'm also fairly curious if Billy Deel will get a charged sentence on him.
The Glass Castle
This is an example of bullying. Dinita would be the big mean bully, and Jeannette would be the small, new kid on the ground.
In the fourth reading of the book The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, Jeannette is bullied by a group of girls at her school. This is a very serious issue because of what Jeannette has already been through, it could push her over the edge eventually! Jeannette becomes bullied by a group of girls including a girl named Dinita Hewitt, who watched her with a smile while they ate lunch on the asphalt. Jeannette was being bullied by this group, and she didn't want to tell anyone about it, as she was to scared that they would do something. This is very ironic that Dinita was bullying her, because later on in the reading, they become very good friends. Dinita doesn't exactly say that she was sorry, however she did opt out of picking on Jeannette, like she usually did, during lunch. This was Jeannette's first reassurance that they could become friends. Secondly, one day when Jeannette was coming home from school, she found Dinita's neighbor, who was basically stranded. Jeannette brought him home, and when she was at his home, she saw Dinita looking at her from across the street on her porch. This was probably the point when Dinita and Jeannette became friends, because Dinita realized that Jeannette wasn't who she appeared to be, and that she was actually very nice!
Excellent reflections! Very thorough and well thought out.
