Reading Check (179-215)

The Glass Castle

Number One) Describe your favorite part of the book from pages 155-213.
My favortie part which happened between pages 155-213 in the book The Glass Castle, was when Jeannette gets invited by Dinita Hewitt invited her to go swimming with her at her private pool. This was a really big step for Jeannette because she had never been invited to a private swimming pool before, and she didn't know what to expect. This section also showed her going from innocence to experience when other women in the locker room were making fun of her because of her body, and mostly because of the stretched skin on her thigh that was taken away to help fix her face from the fire. This section showed that she can take a lot in personally, and not become offended by it, as other women waltz around are glamerous, and make her feel awful, just because she is different on the outside.

Number Two) Create 3 open-ended, though provoking, discussion questions that make specific reference to the events and plot details from the reading from Pg. 155-213.

1)How does Jeannette go from innocence to experience through her experience in the womens locker room at Dinita's private swimming pool?

2)Why do you think the children acted the way they did when Erma died, and why do you think Rex because so furious with them, when in the past, nothing they said mattered to him if they said it.

3)When Jeannettes mom was thinking about the Buisness Card that was left at their door, do you believe that she will actually give in? If so, why do you think she would, when she claims their life is perfect as it is?
